
Throughout Canada Samuel de Champlain is a national hero: the Father of New France, the founder of Quebec, a brave explorer, expert navigator and a visionary who worked tirelessly to create a self-sustaining European settlement in North America. In the United States Champlain is almost unknown.
This is about to change.
Known as a broadcaster of quality programming to over three and a half million American and Canadian viewers daily, Mountain Lake PBS is pleased to present Dead Reckoning ~ Champlain in America, the story of a man obsessed with finding a northwest passage to China, but who instead laid the foundation for a multi-cultural nation in North America. Dead Reckoning ~ Champlain in Americawill explore how Champlain adapted to the demands of living in this new land for itself, not just as a passage to China.
This high-definition media project will be broadcast throughout the United States on PBS and in parts of Canada in 2009. Video segments will also be streamed on an interactive Website and incorporated into educational lesson plans. Mobile videocasts will be delivered to the cell phones of travelers along Quebec, Ontario and New York highways and waterways. Phones with GPS capability will alert travelers when they are about to enter an historic site, where they can download videocasts containing information about Champlain’s explorations.
