PBS offers a comprehensive literacy outreach program centered around its fine educational programming. Mountain Lake PBS supports this outreach on a local level through workshops, grants, materials and a free book distribution. These activities are supported by a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, contributions and local corporate sponsors.

Mountain Lake PBS offers the following school-based workshops:
TIPS AND STRATEGIES FOR PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS TO SUPPORT A CHILD’S READING JOURNEY
- Ideal for parents and caregivers of children, birth through age 10.
- This workshop is a family literacy workshop and participants will learn specific research based reading strategies to help their children learn to read and to support their developing skills.
- Suitable for family school meetings or literacy nights.
- All workshop participants receive materials and a free book.
- Ideal for teachers
- Suitable for staff development workshops and Superintendents Day presentations.
- Participants will explore a core of specific research based comprehension strategies to use across content area subjects.
- Ideal for teachers and educators
- In this workshop, participants will explore the EdVideo Online training at the PowerMedia Site and receive information on the following: VITAL, PBS Teachers, TeacherLine @ PBS, Homework Hotline and educational programming.
- Participants will learn how to access and download videos and images in different subject areas. The content is aligned to New York state standards. This session includes a hands-on tour of the site as well as suggestions for incorporating video into your curriculum.
- Ideal for teachers
- Participants will learn strategies to integrate Mountain Lake produced video, “Dissed-Respect: The Impact of Bullying” into curriculum in order to create a school-wide anti-bullying program.
