FOR CANADIANS – THE TRANSITION TO DIGITAL TELEVISION (DTV)
The U.S. conversion to digital television is a United States government mandate, legally requiring all U.S. broadcasters to end analog broadcasting February 17, 2009. It is the switch to digital broadcasting only, ending analog broadcasting. Digital technology is more flexible and efficient than the current analog system, and the transition will allow televisions stations to offer improved picture and sound quality and additional channels.
Canadian television stations will not end analog broadcasting until August 2011; however if you receive over-the-air signals to watch U.S. television stations, you will be affected by the transition, and will want to take action by February 17, 2009:
OVER-THE-AIR – There are three actions that you can take to continue getting U.S. television reception:
1. Purchase a DTV converter box for your existing television set;
2. Purchase a television set with a built-in digital tuner;
3. Or subscribe to cable, satellite or other pay provider – just make sure that the provider offers the U.S. broadcast stations you want.
CABLE – If you receive cable exclusively in your home, your provider will make sure you continue to get local stations. For a complete listing of Canadian providers that carry Mountain Lake PBS, please visit Channel Information.
